I found out about Progress Place through my social worker. I had asked her if there was any place where I could volunteer and meet new people and just make friends, while at the same time improving my social skills. She said that there is a place where I could volunteer and get help with my mental illness. She gave me a couple of resources such as a pamphlet to read through and get information on what Progress Place is about. After a few weeks I visited progress place with my mom and as soon as we went in, we met some nice people who welcomed us. We also booked a tour beforehand and our tour guide was a person named Kevin. He took us around Progress Place and told us what each area offered.
I went home and learned more about Progress Place on the computer. When I started on Wednesday, I was asked where I was interested in working the most and I said clerical. So when I started I felt a little bit nervous because I wasn’t used to talking to a lot of people. Although, as the days went by I got used it and I met a lot of new people who were nice and told me what Progress Place had to offer.
Progress place also had employment opportunities which I was interested in, and they told me that they can help me craft up my resume. But first I wanted to volunteer and be more social with other people. As I got more comfortable, I was able to interact with more people and help the clerical unit with office work. They also had social events where the entire community was invited to attend and those are great. Overall I am really pleased with my time here at the Clubhouse. By Dylan
